Fortune Telling

Bismillah Ar-RaHman Ar-RaHeem wa alHamdu lillahi rabil ^alameen waSalatu wassalamu ^ala sayyidina MuHAmmadin ashrafil mursaleen wa Habeebi rabil ^alameen.

it is sinful to leave relying on Allah and instead go to the sorcerers and the fortune tellers in order to seek benefit, to alleviate harm, or to simply ask about the future. Whoever goes to a soothsayer or a fortune teller to ask him about something while believing that such a person knows the whole unforeseen (al-ghayb) commits blasphemy. Do not be tempted or deceived by some imposters who might tell some truthful information about your life because such people often have connections with the devil.

A fortune-teller (kahin) is a person who claims the ability to foresee the future. Some of them befriend the Jinn and rely on their sayings that they spread and portray as the future.  On the other hand, an ^arraf is a person who claims the ability to ascertain past events, such as knowing about stolen goods.

Know that the one who goes to either a kahin or an ^arraf, believing that they know about the unforeseen, has belied Allah and His Messenger; no one knows about the unforeseen except Allah, the Exalted. The one who thinks that what a kahin or an ^arraf tells him or her has the possibility of either occurring or not occurring, does not commit blasphemy, however, he or she is sinful for merely asking them.

Also, be warned against those people who claim that they have the ability to call the souls, when in fact they deal with the Jinn. The souls of the pious believers do not like to come back to this world, even if they were to be given this whole world and all of what is in it. In addition, the souls of the blasphemers are under the control of the angels of torture, and the angels will not allow these evil people to take the souls of the blasphemers from them.

Hence, those who go to the places  of these kahins and ^arrafs are not the souls of people, rather, they are the Jinn who know about this person's particular situation (The person who's souls was supposedly called upon) and lived with him. A Jinn can be either his qarin, i.e. the Jinn who accompanied this person for the entirety of his life, or simply a Jinn who knows about someone's situation, however, they lie and say, "I am the soul of such and such." We ask Allah, the Exalted, to protect us from such evil
