Question:
Some people show some that other scholars from his time (of Ibn Taymiah) like al dahabi praised him so what do we say about this? how do we refute this .?
Answer:
Dhahabiy was his direct student! Of course he will praise him. As well as Ibnul-Qaiyim, another student of his. And there are other scholars that praised him at first, but then when he deviated and strayed, they went back and dispraised him.
Ibn Taymiah has many strayings among which he claims that hellfire comes to an end, and that the world is eternal with Allah (not created), and that if Allah willed he can sit on the back of a mosquito, and that it’s possible for Allah to be on the filthy Najasah places (wal ^iadhubillah) from such kufur. He was given istitabah (due to riddah; kufur), he claimed to leave his kufur, and when they release him he would go back to his kufur. So four judges (Qudat – Mujtahids) from the four schools ruled to imprison him for a long imprisinment, and so he was imprisoned repeatedly and he died in prison all due to his strayings. Also, Dhahabiy himself authored a letter exposing ibn taymiah and warning him from his deviations. Imam as-Sakhaiy confirmed this letter and said:
وقد قال الحافظ السخاوي في الإعلان والتوبيخ لمن ذم التاريخ: وقد وقفت للذهبي على رسالة مجيدة وجهها إلى ابن تيمية يردعه فيها عن غواي.

Then ask yourself and them, how could one praise Ibn Taymiah when he said that hellfire ends? and that the world is eternal? and that Allah sits? They may say he deduced the judgment about that, tell him: One cannot deduce the judgment when there’s clear verses against it.
