Who are Sunnis – Ahlu-Sunna Wal Jama^ah?
Ahlus-Sunnah are not a sect or a faction, they are the Majority of the Ummah at all times.
Those hundreds of Millions of Ahlus-Sunnah in our Ummah do not include the extreme sects that falsely claim to be Sunnis and Salafis, like the Wahhabis (followers of Ibn Taymiah and Muhammad bin Abdul-Wahhab) or Hizb al-Ikhwan (So called Muslim Brotherhood followers of the extremist Sayid Qutub), nor the sect of Hizb at-Tahrir (followers of Nabahaniy), nor the fake Sufi-claimers such as the people of Hulul.
Know with a firm conviction that the people of Ahlu-Sunnah wal-Jama^ah in terms of creed (Belief) are either Asha^irah (Followers of Abu Al Hasan Al Ash^ariyy) or Maturidiyyah (Followers of Abu Mansur Al Maturidiyy) may Allah accept both their deeds.
They are the great Imams who protected the honored Shari^ah from the fabricated Hadith, supported the Muslim Nation and strived to clear fabrications of the callers of Misguidance. However, in terms of judgments pertaining to the practices of the Religion, Ahlu-Sunna wal-Jama^ah follow the four reputable madhhabs of Ashafi^iyy, Malikiyy, Hannafiyy and Hanbaliyy. Importantly there are NO DIFFERENCES between them in what pertains to the matters of belief. All believed that Allah is not a body and said the one who attributes to Allah bodily characteristics is a Blasphemer!
The Faqih, Linguist, Hafidh and Muhadith Imam Murtada Azzabidiyu said in his book Ithaaf assadah Al-Mutaqeen Volume 2 page 6 Chapter 2:
“When saying Ahlu-Sunna Wal-Jama^ah, then this is in reference to Al-Asha^irah and Al-Maturidiyyah”.
The group that is on the correct, safe and victorious path are indeed Ahlu-Sunnah wal-Jama^ah. They are the group who are most in number in Prophet Muhammad’s Nation (Peace and Blessings be upon him) and they are the group who will be safe on Judgment Day. Some deviant groups like Al-Wahabis who claim Allah is a body sitting on the throne, deem reciting the Quran upon the Dead Muslim as Haram and deem it sinful to visit Our beloved Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, claim they are from Ahlu-Sunna but in reality they are against Al-asha^irrah and Al-Maturidiyyah and label them as both blasphemers. How can they then be from Ahlu-Sunna? Hence, know that this sect and those who follow their fallacious beliefs is NOT from Ahlu-Sunna Wal-Jama^ah.
Ahlu-Sunna wal Jama^ah are like Immam An-Nawawiyy the author of Riyad-Assaliheen, Al-Hafidh Abu Bakr Al-Bayhaqiyy, Ibn ^Sakir, Al-Hafidh Assubkiyy, Salah Adeen Al-Ayoubyy and As-Sultan Muhammad al Fatih al-^uthmaniyy who conquered Constantinople, and about whom Imam Ahmad related that the Prophet said :<< Constantinople shall be opened, and praised is the army and its Leader who Shall open it>>. All these well-known righteous men are from Ahlu-Sunna wal-jamma^ah. They (Ahlu-Sunna) are the Imams of Tawhid, Tafsir, Fiqh and Hadith. They are the ones who spread Islam to countries like China, Afghanistan, Dagestan, Indonesia and Morocco.
The One group from the 73 groups who will be “safe” in the Hereafter are Ahlu-sunna wal-Jama^ah and the rest will have Hellfire.
The Prophet praised the tribe of the Asha^irah in more than one hadith. He said about them: “If they were in a certain location and some fell short in their supply of food, they would get together, join what food every individual had, then distribute the sum equally among all of them.” Al-Hakim related the Prophet, in praising them, said:
هم مني و أنا منهم
which means: << They follow my methodology, and I am pleased with their action. >>
In Surat al-Ma’idah, Ayah 54, Allah said:
فسوف يأتي الله بقوم يحبهم و يحبونه
which refers to a group of people guided by Allah, who love Allah, and Allah loves them.
It was narrated, at the time this verse was revealed, the Prophet peace be upon him pointed at Abu Musa al-Ash^ariyy and said: “Those are His people”–an explicit reference to the tribe of the Asha^irah–to whom Imam Abul-Hasan al-Ash^ariyy belongs.
Praise be to Allah the lord of the world and May Allah keep us steadfast to the creed of Ahlu-Sunna Wal Jama^ah.
