Bismillah, praise be to Allah the creator of all the creations, who is eternal and exists without a place, we ask Allah to raise the rank of Prophet Muhammad and his kind Aal and companions, thereafter:<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Know that the creed of all Muslims of Ahlus-Sunnah (the Khalaf and Salaf) is that Allah is clear from any imperfections, clear from being in a place or sitting on the throne or bound to space or place.<\/p>\n
I<\/b>mam Abu Hanifah <\/b>who is among the Salaf said in his book, al\u00ad-Wasiyyah,: ” … and He (Allah) is the
\nPreserver of al\u00ad^arsh (throne) and other than al-^arsh, without needing it, for
\nhad He been in need, He would not have the power to create the world
\nand to manage and preserve it. Moreover, had He been in a place needing
\nto sit and rest\u00ad\u00ad before creating al-^arsh, where was Allah?” That is,
\nthe question ‘where was Allah’ would have applied to Him, which is
\nimpossible.<\/p>\n
Also, in his book, Al-Fiqh al-Absat, Imam Abu Hanifah said: “Allah
\nexisted eternally and there was no place; He existed before creating
\nthe creation.<\/b> He existed and there was not a place, a creation or a
\nthing; and He is the Creator of everything. He who says ‘I do not know
\nif my Lord is in the heavens or on the earth,’ is a kafir. Also is a
\nkafir whoever says that ‘He is on al-^arsh, and I do not know whether
\nal-^arsh is in the heaven or on the earth’.” <\/p>\n
Consequently, the great true Salafi Scholar Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal declared whomever says
\nthese last two phrases as a Kafir because they contain attributing a direction,
\nboundary, and place to Allah.<\/b> Everything which has a direction and
\nboundary is by necessity in need of a Creator. Thus it is not the
\nintention of Imam Abu Hanifah to prove that the heaven and al-^arsh are
\nplaces for Allah, as those who liken Allah to the creation claim. This
\nis by virtue of the aforementioned saying of the Imam: “Had He been in
\na place needing to sit and rest, then before creating al-^arsh where
\nwas Allah?”, which is clear in negating that Allah has a direction or a
\nplace. <\/p>\n
Imam Ibn Al-Jawziyy al-Hanbaliy the great Mufassir related in his book ‘Daf^
\nShubhatit-Tashbih’ that: “Imam Ahmad Ibn Hambal (died 241 AH) never attributed directionality to
\nAllah.”<\/b><\/p>\n
And so Imam Ahmad Ibn Salamah, Abu Ja^far at\u00ad-Tahawiyy, who was born in the year 237<\/b> after Hijrah, and was one of the Heads of Great Salaf wrote a book called Al-^Aqidah at\u00adTahawiyyah. He mentioned that the content of his book is an elucidation of the creed of Ahl as\u00adSunnah wal Jama^ah, which is the creed of Imam Abu Hanifah, who died in the year 150 after al\u00adHijrah, and his two companions, Imam Abu Yusuf al-Qadi and Imam Muhammad Ibn al\u00adHasan ash-Shaybaniyy and others. He said in his book: “Allah is supremely clear of all boundaries, extremes, sides, organs and instruments. The six directions do not contain Him–these are attributed to all created things.”<\/b><\/p>\n
Such is the saying of Imam Abu Ja^far who is among the heads of as-Salaf. He explicitly stated that Allah is clear of being contained by the six directions. The six directions are above, below, in front of, behind, right, and left. <\/p>\n
Also Imam al-Ghazaliyy said: ” Allah, the Exalted, existed eternally and there was no place. He is not a body, jawhar (atom), or property, and He is not on a place or in a place.”<\/p>\n
This is the creed of the Prophet and the companions (Radiallahu ^Anhum) we ask Allah to keep us steadfast on it, ameen.<\/p>\n
